My daughter Emily is 14 and has been receiving physical therapy all of her life because of her Cerebral Palsy. Emily fatigues easily and physical therapy is very tiring and hard work. Coming to The Camelot Center and riding “Miss May” allows Emily a fun experience that she looks forward to all week long. Because Emily cannot walk or run independently, horseback riding therapy allows her deep pressure impact to her muscles. Horseback riding therapy also enables her spastic muscles to relax. The Camelot Center and riding “Miss May” brings a lot of happiness to Emily and makes physical therapy fun.

Equine-assisted therapeutic riding is beneficial both physically and emotionally for disabled and able-bodied individuals alike. We currently offer services not only to children but to disabled adults as well as disabled veterans. Physical benefits experienced by students are improved balance, increased range of motion, promotes strength and decreases contractures. Emotionally, students show an increase in self-esteem, a sense of accomplishment and bonding with the program animals. Individual lessons can include grooming of program animals, learning to saddle, mount and rein.
